I was trying to do a “mirror” site for CLG-com to CLG-org. I uploaded the 2018 WP Version that I used when I first did my initial clean WP installation, and also the designing of the Simplified WP Theme. Then, after I fixed the CLG-org Menu … this came up as I tried to update:
WordPress “cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate”
Here’s what I did to fix it.
1) I got the latest 2025 version of WP. Then I opened up my FTP.
2) On the server side, I went to the folder \wp-includes\certificate
- You’ll see a file name “ca-bundle.crt” <– that old file is what’s causing the prompt / error to display and not allow you to update.
- “cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate”
3) So replace it with the latest one, from the WP 2025 version (or whatever is the latest).
4) Go to your computer folder, where you have “unzipped” the latest WP version at and look at the same folder path
- \wp-includes\certificate
5) Then upload that latest WP 2025 file called:
- “ca-bundle.crt” <— that would be the latest version. You can overwrite the older version file
6) Then go to your Back Office WP Dashboard, and so you should be able to click the “Update WP” and be able to.
Hope this helps someone! 🙂
